We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Lead Planner to join our team at Hinkley Point C, one of the UK's largest and most complex infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity to lead planning activities for major mechanical installation works, contributing to the successful delivery of a nationally significant nuclear programme.
Based full-time onsite, you will work closely with project delivery, engineering, construction and project controls teams to develop, manage and optimise project schedules, ensuring mechanical works are delivered safely, efficiently and on programme.
Our client is offering Inside IR35 12 Month Contracts + Extensions or Permanent Contracts for the Mechanical Lead Planner position.
The Role
As the Mechanical Lead Planner, you will be responsible for leading all planning activities relating to mechanical installation packages, providing accurate programme information, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting the successful delivery of key project milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, maintenance and management of detailed mechanical project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Coordinate planning activities across mechanical installation, testing and commissioning phases.
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineers and Project Controls to ensure programme alignment.
- Monitor project progress against the baseline programme and report on performance.
- Identify critical path activities, schedule risks and programme constraints, recommending mitigation and recovery strategies.
- Produce regular planning reports, progress updates and schedule analysis for project stakeholders.
- Support change management by assessing programme impacts and maintaining programme integrity.
- Ensure planning activities are aligned with project objectives, contractual requirements and delivery milestones.
- Mentor and support planners within the wider planning team where appropriate.
- Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring planning supports safe and efficient project execution.
About You
You are an experienced planning professional with a strong background in mechanical construction or engineering projects and are confident leading planning activities on large, complex programmes.
You will ideally have:
- Extensive planning experience within mechanical construction, engineering, energy, nuclear or major infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience leading planning activities for mechanical installation packages.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling techniques and critical path analysis.
- Experience producing detailed progress reports and schedule performance analysis.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Previous experience working on nuclear or other highly regulated projects.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts and project delivery frameworks.
- Engineering, construction or project management qualification.
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as APM, CIOB or ICE.

This is a full-time, onsite position based at Hinkley Point C, Somerset. Regular site attendance is essential due to the collaborative and operational nature of the role.
